RTUs are the "senses" of the system, they continuously monitor fibers to check the status of the network 24/7.
RTUs are deployed in strategic sites to check the network. If something abnormal occurs, such as a break or a damage on a fiber, the RTU sends an alert message to the SCU.
Each RTU carries out continuous (24/7), accurate and sophisticated fiber measurements and tests based on OTDR technology, Fiber Attenuation Monitoring and Optical Power Monitoring to evaluate the quality and the performances of the network. The results are compared to stored reference data and analyzed.
If there is any fiber degradation, the RTU can identify it before it affects network performances.
In case of breaks or faults the RTU generates an alarm message and sends it automatically to the SCU.
Optical Spectrum Analyser (OSA) measurement can be performed and integrated into the system.
